About Me
I am a writer, academic, and designer, currently working in Lincoln. My overruling passion is the work of William Blake, who I have studied and written about for more than 30 years, but I also have a keen interest in the arts, especially music, and the impact of technology on our lives.
After studying for a PhD on Blake and antiquarianism at the University of Birmingham, I was the founding editor of the magazine PC Advisor (now Tech Advisor), working mainly in London and sometimes in San Francisco. During this time, I helped to set up what was one of the first magazine web sites in the UK. Following this, I began lecturing at what was then Falmouth College of Arts and now Falmouth University, eventually becoming Professor of Blake Studies and the first Director of the School of Writing. I left this post to take up Head of the School of English and Journalism at the University of Lincoln, where I now work in a role covering employability, enterprise and professional practice.
I’ve had the immense pleasure of working with a range of talented and gifted people and organisations, including Carol Ann Duffy, The Guardian, and, most recently, the singer-songwriters Susheela Raman and Sam Mills. My creative side mostly comes out via writing books and journalism, but I also continue to design magazines and web sites. I am a trustee of The Blake Society and The Blake Cottage Trust, and hope to be able to bring new interpretations of the works of William Blake to more and more people in the future.
